Lauren Knighten - 3/28 Class Reflection

In class, we listened to Dr. Redick's paper being presented at the conference he is going to. I believe it was on his adventure hiking the Continental Divide and it was so intriguing. When he talked about the trees making noise in the wind and how they're speaking in a sense was so cool because I never thought about that as a way of nature communicating with us. Another part that really stuck with me was the part talking about all of the dead trees on that one part of the trail. The picture made it so real and it was kind of creepy because it was just empty land with dead trees that used to be alive. Another thing I thought was funny was when his son and he came face to face with a moose. Encountering the moose in its natural habitat is so amazing because that would never happen in Virginia so getting to experience that somewhere else is so thrilling. When he talked about getting to the top of a steep hike I was thinking how is he going to get back down! The video of the wolf running off into the forest from the meadow was so beautiful. Being able to encounter these species in their natural habitats is so fascinating to me because it shows they are not always vicious killers but just animals living their lives like us.
